Constitution of WOWS
MEMBERSHIP FEES
The Steeringgroup has the power to waive dues for members in economic need.
The price of the fee will be decided upon by the General Assembly.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
- A general assembly of all memberorganisations will be held at least one’s in the three years at the International Interdisciplinary Conferences on Women, or in case this conference is not taking place at another appropriate event. Notification of meetings will be mailed to members at least six months prior to the meeting date.
- Any memberorganisation may bring issues to the General Assembly for consideration and vote. Issues may be raised in advance by post or by written proposal circulated at the General Assembly.
- Voting on issues of concern to the General Assembly will take place either in person or, if an issue is to be decided outside meeting times, by post. Issues will be decided by 50% plus 1 of voting members. Constitutional questions, however, will require a two/thirds majority.
- An extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly may be called by a majority of the steering group or by ten per cent of the membership among whom at least four countries are represented.
- Each association or network affiliated with WOWS will nominate one representative to vote on the General Assembly.
THE COUNCIL
- The national memberorganisations of a region* nominate one representative and one alternate to the Council, international interdisciplinary memberorganisations nominate one representative. Also the divisions nominate one representative.
- If there is no nomination from the region the Council will be responsible for finding a nomination for that region.
- The Council will elect the 9 members for the Steeringgroup.
- The Council will advise the Steeringgroup and the General Assembly.
- The Council will stimulate membership of WOWS.
- The Council will assist the members of the Steeringgroup with their tasks, espcially dissimination of information in their region.
- The Council will meet not less than once in the three years.
- Members will serve for no more than nine consecutive years.
- Elections and nominations will take place once in the three years.
* The regions are: North-America (USA and Canada), South- and Central-America, Europe, Africa, East-Asia , West-Asia. STEERINGGROUP
- The steeringgroup will consist of nine women, each of whom has one vote. To secure balance the six regions1 have at least one member in the Executive Board. One member shall be from the country where the secretariat is located. All members of the Steeringgroup will inform the various women's studies groups in their countries about WOWS. Additional tasks will consist of but not be limited to: finances, fund-raising, promotion and publicity, programme of events and activities, publications, curriculum developments, research developments, membership, current issues and general administration.
- The Steeringgroup will meet at least once in the three years.
- The Steeringgroup will act on proposals passed by the General Assembly.
- Members will serve for no more than nine consecutive years.
THE SECRETARIAT
- A group from one country will act as the Secretariat for the association.
- Rotation will be considered every three years.
- All papers, equipment and other material belonging to the association will be transferred with the Secretariat when it is moved.
DIVISIONS
- Two memberorganisations supported by eight other memberorganisations may initiate divisions.
- Divisions are working on special theme or tasks.
- Proposals for divisions will be voted on by the General Assembly.
- Each division may nominate one representative to serve on the Council.
DISSOLUTION OF THE ORGANIZATION
- Dissolution of the organization may be voted by mail by a 2/3 majority.
- Disposal of the association's assets will be decided by the General Assembly.
