The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan created Woman In Development (WID) in June 1995.
Currently there are three units within the Bureau, which are: (1) Economic development unit; (2) Training and social work unit; and (3) Political development (gender policy) unit.

A major publication, jointly with the National Committee on Family and Women, Union of Women of Tajikistan, is the draft of the National Plan of Actions for Advancement of Women for the years 1998-2005.
Between 1998 and mid 1999 22 projects from NGOs have been supported by small-grants program in order to advance empowerment of women.
The Bureau is ensuring support to the National Committee and its branches through the Bulletin Sabo by publishing information about their activities. Jointly with the State Committee on Statistics the WID Bureau published Gender in Tajikistan.
