The Center for the Study of Women & Gender (NEMGE) is located at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.  Its' goals are:

  • To carry out interdisciplinary research on the status of women, especially the Brazilian reality.
  • To intercede in public policies, offering assistance to government agencies regarding women, to control violence against women, and instill equal opportunities for women.
  • To provide professors, researchers, and students with the opportunity for interdisciplinary study and investigation regarding the social relations of gender.
  • To encourage the education of university researchers and teachers.
  • To offer courses, seminars, symposia, conferences and technical-scientific and cultural exchanges with national and foreign institutions.
  • To give instructional, scientific and technical assistance to the university, the community in general, and research centers inside and outside of Brazil.
  • To provide an interchange of knowledge on national and international levels, on subjects regarding the situation of women.
  • To publish the results of research projects about women and gender.
