20th century modernization and the globalization
that has emerged as the new world order in the 21st century
have profoundly influenced Asia, both regionally and historically.
Asia's nation-states have played diverse roles in this process
of change, and the lives of women in various Asian areas have
coped with these changes in many different ways. In this session,
women's issues specific to Asia's various localities will
be presented along with the ongoing global and transnational
changes. This will be followed by a discussion on their implications.
Here will be discussed issues connecting transnational characteristics
and regional or historical distinctions which require supranational
cooperation across Asia for satisfactory solutions.
