Law & Human Rights

This section will discuss equality before the law, equality in law, strategies for promoting gender equality through law, and women's human rights issues. It will examine and analyze theories in law and women's studies. Subjects for discussion will include: the positive laws in each country ; precedents with a gender perspective ; gender issues in legal education ; the training of judges and lawyers ; gender-mainstreaming in jurisprudence ; the internationalization of human rights law in the UN and the EU ; women's human rights with an international law perspective ; and the reality of women's human rights in each country. The sub-topics in this session include international human rights, gender and law-related issues such as employment, divorce, reproductive rights, rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment, pornography and prostitution.
